Well, I’ve had another one of my crazy thoughts. Do you have a few minutes to sit back and read some more? Unless you’ve had your head buried in the sand or been lost in the depths of the Amazon jungle, you’ve probably heard about the new evidence suggesting that there was once water on planet Mars.
From the latest data and pictures beamed back from Mars, research scientists believe that the canals of Mars could have once flowed with water, one of the basic elements for life as we know it. If that’s true, maybe hundreds or thousands of years ago, a civilization much like Earth may have existed on that now barren wasteland. Skip to: Through The Eyes Of A Martian
Does it matter? Not really. What I’m thinking is another of my daft thoughts or could it be a futuristic story, whichever, once put down on paper, I’ll be able to put to bed and out of my head?
Through The Eyes Of A Martian
If we theorize that life did exist on Mars, then what the hell happened to them? Mars today is a bleak, barren landscape, which means our current interpretation of life couldn’t survive there- or could it? If you’re still with me, let’s rewind time a little- or should I say a lot?
It was thousands of years ago, and I am a Martian (to use a label) living on Mars—where else? If you could see my home, you would be surprised to find how closely it resembles your planet Earth.
We are an advanced race with commonplace space travel capabilities that Earth has not even dreamed of yet. We have an independent World Committee that oversees the many Government bodies that rule our planet. We were so technologically advanced we thought we were invincible. That was our first mistake, among many.
The second big mistake- the many nations never once stood up and said enough was enough.
Governments lined their pockets, and we became fodder for many Government Bodies.
Many of our precious land masses suffered from the internal wars of the time. Some governments wanted more, others wanted to retain what was theirs, and some just wanted to flex their muscles but went too far and wouldn’t turn back for fear of losing face.
It didn’t take long for the internal wars around the globe to irreparably damage our planet. Just like Earth, our world had fault lines that began to mirror the chaos within. The internal wars on our planet played their part, and our fault lines could no longer bear the strain.
At first, it went unnoticed as the landmasses became unsteady. Our vast oceans-yes, we had oceans too-relentlessly pounded our shores, reclaiming vast areas of our world. As I mentioned, you would be surprised by how much my home resembled your planet Earth.
But it didn’t stay unnoticed for long. Over the years, new volcanoes emerged, the ground shifted, and our planet split open, all while the wars raged on. Would we ever learn?
Thankfully, it soon became apparent that something needed to be done as living on the surface became increasingly unbearable. Our air was poisoned, and our world was being torn apart.
The Day Of Reckoning
The World Wide Conference decided to build massive underground living accommodations for everyone. With our advanced technology, digging out huge underground homes was relatively simple.
World leaders agreed that this would allow us to monitor the surface until it returned to its former state on which researchers could be sent to the surface to begin the extensive clean-up.
It was inevitable that those in the know would choose to take their chances in space, understanding that staying on Mars would eventually lead to extinction. However, conveniently, the masses were not informed of what the elite knew (will we ever learn).
Journey Beyond The Stars
The owner of the particular spaceship I boarded believed that they were making a grave mistake by venturing far beyond our solar system in search of new planets to colonize, especially when our technology only hinted at the existence of other advanced life forms.
The particular ship I was on was heading toward a planet where primitive life forms were known to exist. This planet was abundant in minerals and vegetation, and its air had a higher oxygen content compared to my planet. However, we were confident that we could adapt to the change in air quality, and overall, this new world had the potential to sustain our life forms.
Most importantly, the life forms on this new planet were so primitive that, upon our arrival, they would perceive us as gods. This would make it much easier for the few of us to coexist among them.
In To The Unknown
We were starting anew. Many lifetimes would pass for the small number of us to bring our advanced knowledge to this primitive world, which would soon become our home-assuming we arrived without any further mishaps.
We would gradually introduce our technology to our new home. The brilliant minds from our planet would have made it much easier to advance in our newfound world. However, they were aboard a large convoy of spacecraft heading for a different destination, where they hoped to find a new world with technology on par with our own.
Sadly, unbeknownst to me, their escape to a new world would end in failure and total extinction.
A New Begining
The primitives on the planet we hoped to make our home would leave pictorial depictions around their dwellings—drawings that, with hindsight, would fuel speculation in the distant future of our soon-to-be new home.
Life existed on Mars, but it no longer does. Those of my people who remained on the planet built their underground homes to wait out the environmental catastrophe they had caused. They were destined never to see the surface of their home again, and extinction soon followed. The spacecraft that ventured out in search of life elsewhere likely perished as well.
As for the spacecraft, I hitched a ride on… yes, we landed.
Earth was the planet we landed on all those years ago… our new home to be … So if you’re not ahead of me… I am a descendant of my people. No Aliens are coming to take over Earth they are already here… We the masses are the Aliens.
Sightings of unusually shaped aircraft were still years away. Some people would claim to have seen strange lights in the sky, while others will speak of being abducted. They may or may not be UFOs or aliens from Mars or another planet coming to take over Earth… but I can confidently say they’re not from Mars. We landed and made this new world our home.”
When Will They Ever Lean
Wars come, and still more wars of unhappy Nations. We are taking the best out of our adopted new home and what are we putting back …Nothing… If there is one thing a man can not fight against even with all his firepower is nature- Mother Nature. Look at the climate changes occurring around our adopted planet. It’s gradually shifting, and if we persist continually abusing Earth we won’t need a meteor to strike Earth. Mother Nature will wipe us out and start anew.
We cannot fight the weather; we can only try to protect ourselves against it. But eventually, even our defenses will be futile. If Mother Nature feels us her tenants have abused her for far too long, will she call in our debt? Probably.
Our planet does not belong to any individual or group. We are here on a lease, and when that lease expires, what do you think will happen? Extinction, perhaps. I can only hope that Earth’s leaders, unlike those of my home planet Mars, take notice before our adopted planet is tragically lost to the wars that once ravaged my home, leading almost to our extinction. The signs are already apparent, and I hope leaders recognize the necessity of peace.
A Martian After Thought
Our life cycle here on Earth is three times longer than the average Earthling. We have been unable to pass on as much of our technology as we had hoped. There is still much to teach. I can only hope our descendants are successful and Earth, our new home, does not become a repetition of what we did to our home world. There is no escape from this world.
Our technology even as advanced as we were all those years ago could not save our first home. If it happens again, here on planet Earth, there is no way Earth will survive and history will repeat itself.
When will we ever learn? Remember there is no other world out there for us to colonize so easily. My ancestors destroyed that which could have been a haven-Mars. This time extinction means extinction even for our new home Earth.

I do not have a clue where my crazy thoughts come from. Maybe those weird dreams have something to do with it. Sometimes I think I have taken leave of my senses. Ahh! Now saying that has just put my next crazy idea into my head. Bye For Now (Shahd 2024)
